Initiated by Ron Williams, Joan Williams,
Larry Vorwerck and Paul Welsh, the Colorado Repertory Singers was formed in
January, 2002 to provide residents of Broomfield and Front Range communities the
opportunity to perform and to listen to challenging choral music in a variety of
concert formats. The genesis of the chorale was the Broomfield United Methodist
Church Festival Choir, a volunteer choir that performed Mozart's Requiem
under the direction of Ron Williams in November, 2001. The 60-member choir and
four soloists performed with a 31-piece orchestra of professional musicians to a
sold-out crowd of 500 people and raised $2,000 for Habitat for Humanity.
The high degree of community
involvement in the Requiem concert encouraged Mr. Williams to explore the
formation of a permanent chorale of area singers who wished to focus on
performing major sacred and secular works of various musical genres. A steering
committee was formed to organize the Colorado Repertory Singers, and Mr.
Williams received permission to use the Broomfield United Methodist Church
facility for rehearsals and performances. Approximately 45 singers attended an
orientation and planning meeting on Jan. 14, 2002, and auditions and rehearsals
began the following week.
Articles of Incorporation for the Colorado
Repertory Singers were filed Feb. 1, 2002, at 3:47 p.m. with the
Colorado Secretary of State. Ronald J. Williams was appointed as Music
Director. Currently Tad Koriath is the accompanist and Margaret O'Keefe- Zeigler
the assistant director.
